#7 Is dopamine making us addicted to social media?
Good morning!
This week I bring three completely unrelated topics. Apart from binge-watching any iPhone 13 review that comes out, I saw a lot of Youtube. While feeding the baby the easiest way is to put Youtube on the TV and enter the rabbit hole. I have to say that he does not enjoy it a lot watching filmmaking tutorials 😅.
Dopamine hits on social media
In this long thread, Andrew shares a concern that most of us already know: the addictive side of social media. It’s a very interesting read to mind ourselves that not everything is good in social media, and that we need to make sure we make room for enough breaks. Even if I don’t believe is a black or white thing, I agree that we should be mindful about our usage. Is the same as not letting your kid play all day with video games.
ProRes on the iPhone 13
We got a first glance at what it looks like to shoot with ProRes on the iPhone 13. Recently, Filmic Pro released an update of their app with the ability to shoot ProRes. While we wait until Apple adds this feature to the native camera app, we can see what to expect from this codec in our videos.
As people are already got concerned, the file size of these files is massive, and the I/O of the device has a limited speed to transfer the files to the mac. The lighting port is USB 2.0, which is quite slow, and Airdrop is not as fast as a wired connection. Let’s see what Apple comes up with to solve this issue in the future. Maybe USB-C in the iPhone 14?
Apart from the concern, you can see that the quality is much higher. Less noise in the blacks, less compression overall. Michael shot this video entirely in ProRes and also included sample footage in the pinned comment of the video.
Is self-help making you feel not good enough?
As an avid self-help reader, this video from Nathaniel Drew made me think. Is self-help always assuming we are not ok as we are right now? I am a firm believer that anything in this life can be improved, and we should be always evolving. But I agree with the video that you should enjoy the journey. Be ok with who you are today. Not self-judge making you feel something is missing. The latest productivity hack or morning routine could make you a worse person. Don’t let others make you judge yourself too hard and enjoy your days as they are.
